   JMT Care Services:   About Us

JMT Young Adult Placement Service offers continuing care placements to our fostered young people aged 18+

Our foster carers believe that offering a permanent foster placement to a young person is a great way to help that young person feel part of their fostering family.   The young person may have lived there since they were in primary school and now they are planning to move into the world of work or training or further/higher education.   Our carers offer a continuing care placement to young people who have grown up in their homes and who are not ready to leave.

The role of the foster carer is very different from caring for an 8 year old to an 18 year old. The carer role changes to one of preparing and readying, to allow the young person to develop the skills and abilities to move onto the next phase of their life.

The supervising social worker in this role has to support the foster carer to develop the skills to promote independence for each young person.

The foster carer agreement is different for Young Adult Placements as you would expect.  The carers allowances rate is lower and the number of visits and meetings changes too.  Our carers sometimes have both a fostered young person and a young adult in placement and we negotiate the level of support offered and the time the carer needs on an individual basis to ensure the carer feels motivated and encouraged to recognise the needs of each young person.
